Forest Quality and Management

 

Driving along the roads of Monroe County the natural forested area is visible from all angles.  The SWCD Board of Supervisors has seen a growing concern with regard to loss of hardwoods.  An the Distract and Board of Supervisor is supportive of the planting of native hardwoods such as oaks and hickory’s is a main focus for the Soil and Water Conservation District and Board of Supervisors.

Areas of Focus

  • Increase the number of acres in Timber Stand Improvement (TSI) by 50%

 

  • Hold Annual or Bi-annual forestry field day

 

  • Hold Annual Fall and Spring Tree Sales

 

  • Provide Rural Tree Care and Maintenance Workshops

 

  • Promote the Back Yard Conservation project and Plant-A-Million

 

  • Provide a hardwood tree and needed equipment for planting in each Habitat for Humanity Home in Monroe County

 

  • Encourage Livestock Exclusion fencing from Forested Areas

 

  • Identify and discourage invasive species.
