Monroe County Soil & Water Conservation District

Land Use

Land use changes are occurring at a rapid rate in Monroe County.  In the 1940’s there were 173,293 acres in agricultural production.  As of 2002 there were 60,510 acres in agricultural production in Monroe County.  Drive down any county road and you can see some type of land development.  With these changes comes an enormous responsibility for the public to ensure we protect our natural resources to the best of our ability.  The loss of soil, water quality and wildlife habitat all have a direct impact on the quality of life.  Monroe County Soil & Water Conservation District is dedicated to educating and providing instruction on best management practices to ensure we manage our natural resources as the land around us changes.
